Gateway Real Estate Africa has identified Metroplex Shopping Mall as an asset with significant development potential. The intention of the redevelopment is to revitalize the mall with a new tenant mix and refreshed modern aesthetic, thereby realigning the existing asset to the dynamic retail market of Kampala.

The redevelopment comprises approximately 13,000 m2 gross lettable area, anchored by Carrefour, who have recently announced their entry into Uganda, Century Cinemax, and sub-anchored by Woolworths, Aga Khan, Bata and DTB Bank. Several international coffee shop and restaurant brands as well as a diverse array of local and international fashion and other retailers have expressed interest.

The existing Metroplex Shopping Mall is a well-located double level Centre and historically been well known for its two anchors, the Hypermarket and Cinema Complex. Post redevelopment, the mall configuration will largely focus on the new central atrium space with promotion court, coffee shops, new lifts and escalators. A new food hall will also be a cornerstone of the new development. The overall retail environment is designed to appeal to young, active and vibrant urban Kampalans in a modern, energetic retail space.

Key differentiators of Metroplex Shopping Mall are free wi-fi, easily accessible with ample parking, children’s play area, cinema complex, a new food court and banking facilities.

The refurbishment will include new finishes to the roof and facades. There will be new signage and the entrance feature will also increase the visibility and presence of the mall and raise the profile of tenants.

The outdoor experience of the mall will feature restaurants, coffee bars, play areas and external seating to compliment the redesign of the mall interiors.

A new access road to the mall shall be constructed to improve mall accessibility from all directions.

The redevelopment shall position Metroplex Shopping Mall as the primary destination shopping, dining and entertainment hub for the whole family, within its primary and secondary catchment area as a result of the planned diverse & varied tenant mix.
